New school term – arrangements for returning to school

Dear parents,

I hope you are enjoying the last of the summer weather and that your son is looking forward to returning to school next Tuesday morning. We are all very excited to see the boys again and are busy preparing for their return.

Just a short note today about arrangements for returning to school next week. We have been advised by the Department of Education that the mitigation measures against Covid 19 should remain in place. In short, we start the new year with the same safeguards that we had last year.

We will continue with our staggered start times this year. Our first group will arrive between 8.45 a.m. and 9 a.m. and will finish school at 2.30 p.m. The second group will begin their day between 9 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. and finish at 2.40 p.m. Please see below for particular classes.

(Parents of new Junior Infant boys please note that I will send you an email on Thursday with more information particular to the arrangements for your son.)

Please remember that most of the boys are well able to walk themselves to their classroom, but if you do need to escort them to the front door for the first day, please ensure that you wear a mask on campus and do not congregate in the yard. We will continue to operate a one-way system on the grounds of the school. Our cleaning contractor from Georgia will continue to hand wash doors and door knobs and maintain cleanliness on the highest level possible. Unfortunately, we are not yet free of Covid 19, its danger or its restrictions and your continuing cooperation is appreciated.

Last year, our school was very successful at keeping safe from Covid 19 and we are very aware that this was a result of a combination of the safety measures that our Board of Management put in place and your responsibility and cooperation. We are still at risk from this virus and we need you to continue to support us.

Please do not send your son to school if he is unwell or displaying symptoms of Covid 19 (which may include a runny nose). If children become unwell or display symptoms of Covid 19 during school we will continue our practice of asking you to collect them and contact your G.P. for advice. We realise that this is a burden on you, but, unfortunately it is a necessary one to keep us all safe and the school open. I know I can rely on your continuing support in this regard.

Finally, may I remind you all that you must complete a “Covid 19 return to school declaration” for your son before he returns to school next Tuesday. This can be done through the Aladdin Connect app. I will email you again on Thursday with more information about this so please don’t try to complete it yet.

I hope you all enjoy the good weather this week. We look forward to seeing many happy faces next Tuesday (and that’s just the parents’!).

This year will be a great one for all in St. Pat’s B.N.S.! Having met most of the teachers over the last couple of days, I know I speak for them when I say, we are so excited to get going!

Stay safe,

Best regards,

Brian Horan,
