It was a cloudy day as the boys of St. Pat’s got ready for the cup game vs Holy Family SNS. This was a must win game as the boys would only have three matches left if they didn’t win. As the team warmed up beside Holy Family SNS our support was gathering. The game started and we were immediately on the attack but against the run of play, Holy Family scored after just 3 minutes. But we kept trying, Josh’s free kick went just wide, Josh’s shot then deflected at the goalkeeper. But somehow Holy Family made it 2-0. As the half time whistle blew, Ms. Flanagan gave the team some inspirational jellies again hoping they would help like the last game.

As the second half started, Josh got the ball down the wing and played it to substitute Aaron at the edge of the box where his knuckleball shot blasted in the top corner making it 2-1. Then we kept trying as Holy Family were being denied by Hayden and our defenders. But then it happened. Aaron got the ball. There were some questions if the ball went out of play but he crossed it in and substitute Niko headed it into the open net, equalising the match. Near the end Holy Family had one last chance as their player was in the box with an open net, making a miraculous recovery, Hayden stretched out his arm to deny the forward!

Then the match ended, it was going to be settled by penalties. The boys worked hard in the shootout but were unfortunately eliminated from the cup. Overall, St. Pat’s were the stronger team as they had 4 shots on target compared to Holy Family’s 2. That’s it from me and we will see you all at the next match.
